Emma Stone’s ancestors immigrated to the United States from Sweden, and Anglicized their surname. She spent most of her childhood in Arizona, before eventually dropping out of an all-girls Catholic Catholicschool and convincing her parents to move to California. At age 15, she began attending auditions while being homeschooled by her mother. She started her career on TV, with smaller, short-lived roles. She auditioned for Heroes, but the role she had wanted eventually went to Hayden Panettiere. Her first movie was Superbad in 2007, followed by a string of comedies like The Rocker, The House Bunny, and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Her first big break came in 2009 when she starred Zombieland. In 2010 she appeared in her first leading role for Easy A, a huge hit that catapulted Stone as one of America’s sweethearts. Taking a break from romantic or comedic roles, she appeared in The Help, which was honored with a nomination at the 84th Academy Awards.
