Taylor Swift

During the recent Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon many celebrities shared their stories, but few as uniquely as Taylor Swift. She performed her new song “Ronan,” which is about a 4 year-old boy who passed away due to cancer. She co-wrote the new song with his mother, and this event was the debut performance. Artists Coldplay, Alicia Keys, and Tim McGraw also performed.

Peter Criss of KISS

Peter Criss is a founding member of rock band KISS. While he is no longer with the band, he is using that notoriety to help raise awareness for breast cancer – in men. He was diagnosed with the disease, and like many men was caught off guard that such a thing exists. Less than 1 percent of cases are in men, but they have a low survival rate simply because they aren’t aware of the disease.

Kellie Pickler

One of the ways that celebrities are raising awareness for breast cancer is by shucking fashion convention and shaving their hair. This isn’t like that time Britney Spear’s shaved her noggin though, it’s a heartfelt gesture that shows solidarity with those enduring treatment. Country star Kellie Pickler shaved her head to support her best friend who is currently battling breast cancer.

Local Bands Everywhere

A simple google search reveals an overwhelming number of concerts are festivals featuring both national and local bands. Events like Breastfest and Bands for Boobies bring together bands who don’t take any pay from the show, instead giving all proceeds to charity. It’s a strong reminder that every little bit counts!

Our Lady Peace

Many years before cancer awareness became a major movement amongst celebrities, grunge act Our Lady Piece was inspired to create a song for a young girl who passed away from a cancerous tumor. The song “Thief” still stands as one of the most moving songs on the subject, all the way to the chilling ending which features the little girl who they dedicated the song to.

NED

NED may be the only artist on this list that you haven’t heard of, but will be glad you did. The group is made up of cancer surgeons from all over America who work to treat gynecologic cancer. Gynecologic cancer hasn’t received the media attention of breast cancer because it affects less women than breast cancer, but it has a much higher mortality rate. NED hopes to be a spark plug for funding in researching the disease, and their heartfelt blend of classic rock, funk, and pop makes the music worth supporting as well.

Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga

Numerous celebrities have supported the social media campaign Abolish Cancer, which aims to connect people to ways they can help fight the disease. Some of the biggest names on the entire list of celebrities are the musicians, and superstars Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber have made sure to be a part!

Martina McBride

Martina McBride’s “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” is one of the top songs that have been made over the year for breast cancer awareness. The song is moving, but the video is what really takes it over the top. Featuring numerous stars who have fought the fight, it is worth a watch!
