10 Questions to Ask Your Doctor About Osteoarthritis

What Causes OA?

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and occurs when the spongy cushion of cartilage surrounding your joints breaks down over time. Cartilage acts like a shock absorber, and without it, your bones can scrape against each other, leading to joint damage and inflammation. Your doctor can describe this process, tell you which of your joints are affected, and explain how OA causes your symptoms.
