How to Survive an Impossible Mixed-Faith Marriage
page Robbing the cradle
Believe that God gives us opportunities for spiritual growth. For most of our marriage, my relationship with my in-laws was frosty. Occasionally, Richard and I would make the three-hour trip so he could visit them. I’d drop him off, shop and pick him up when he called. One day when I got there he said, “My father wants to see you.” (His dad was failing.) My initial reaction was “No way!” But then I recognized that God was offering me a chance to do the right thing. It was my decision to accept or decline. I visited, and cared for him and my mother-in-law – as much as distance would allow – until they died.
