AMERICAN MUSLIM LEADERS ASK THAT JAMIL AL-AMIN SURRENDER TO FBI
Muslim representatives offer condolences to families of shooting victims
(WASHINGTON, DC, 3/18/2000)--Several national American Muslim organizations today issued a statement in reaction to a shooting incident late Thursday in Atlanta, Ga., that left one sheriff's deputy dead and another critically wounded. Authorities allege that the shooting was carried out by Imam Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin.
The statement by American Muslim Alliance (AMA), American Muslim Council (AMC), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) reads as follows:
"The American Muslim community is shocked and deeply saddened by Thursday's shooting in Atlanta. We condemn this act of violence and offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain and injured officers.
"In order that all the facts in this case be known and that justice be allowed to take its course, we ask that Jamil Al-Amin surrender immediately to the FBI. A fair and impartial trial can then move forward based, as always, on the presumption of innocence."
