“You Look Nice”
This may seem like a vacuous compliment, but I still remember the exact moment, nearly 30 years ago when a stranger said these words to me. I had just finished my first year at the Air Force Academy, where freshmen wear only uniforms, and I was finally allowed to wear my civilian clothes. I had selected a simple dress and had taken care with my appearance—I finally felt feminine again. A young man passed by and simply said, “You look nice,” as he continued down the hallway. There were no strings attached—just a simple and genuine compliment. He will never how it made my day and remains a fond memory decades later. You also never know when your compliment may do the same.
