How was your New Year’s Eve? Whatever your answer, it was probably better than what Mariah Carey had.
Mariah, performing live on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (and being broadcast around the world, had some issues arise. There was a problem with the playback for the track of one song, and then another song played that Mariah apparently didn’t know would be playing. Then the system glitched out again on the third song.
Also, for the most part, her lip-synching was terrible. Oops.
We have a birthday and place of birth for Mariah Carey, but sources vary as to which year she was born in, so all we can say for sure is that her Sun is between 6 and 7 degrees Aries. Even so, in this case we can see a lot as to why her performance malfunctioned the way it did.
(An aside: When you’re looking at celebrity birth charts, you’ve always got to be really careful about the accuracy of the information involved. If you type the name of a major celebrity into Google followed the the word astrology, there are almost always the same two sites come up at the top of the listings. Both have the word “astro” in their names, but one clear cites credible sources for birth data and rates the accuracy of the source, and one doesn’t. The web site that is much more likely to present inaccurate data is, unfortunately, often the first one that comes up. No names, but: if there is one theme astrologers don’t want to develop, it’s a reliance on bad birth data. That’s a theme we should all avoid.)
Nonetheless, the Sun in your birth chart is where you get your Ego from — and this incident certainly seems to have bruised Mariah’s ego/public image. First of all, yes: this is a classic Mercury Retrograde sort of thing, but why did it manifest where and when it did in this case? First of all, Mercury was at 3 degrees Capricorn, squaring Mariah’s Sun. Transiting Mars conjunct Neptune was in a close quincunx to her Sun. But there was more to it than just that: at this time things were going wrong for her performance, the local Ascendant and Midheaven were opposite and square her Sun, respectively. So yes — astrologically speaking, even with just the birthday, an astrologer could have told Ms. Carey that she was going to have a bad time.
So, Mariah: if you’re out there, instead of wasting a lot of time and money on an investigation and/or lawsuit that’s not going to go anywhere and will just make you look bad — why not hire an astrologer for your entourage instead. But, I warn you now… I’ll need know your real date and time of birth. You’ve gotta be accurate about these things.
