Mourning is not necessarily about ending a relationship with a lost loved one, but figuring out a way to carry him or her with you.
While public opinion has often held that it is strange or even sick to talk to the deceased, it’s actually proven quite healthy in psychological studies. As Gail Caldwell beautifully put it, “We never get over great losses, we absorb them.” In order to heal, we must figure out how to continue the relationship with our loved ones, even after they are gone—whether through prayer, meditation, or even the occasional “sign” from beyond.
