Darren Aronofsky is a filmmaker and screenwriter known for his surreal and disturbing films. He studied directing at the American Film Institute and went on to become a National Student Academy Award finalist for his senior thesis film, "Supermarket Sweep." His feature debut was "Pi" with a second psychological film, "Requiem for a Dream," as a follow up. Both generated strong reviews, though "Requiem" was controversial. Several of his other films received critical accolades and controversy in equal measure.
