Becker began winning tennis championships in 1977 when he won the South German championship and German Youth Tennis Tournament. He became a professional player in 1984 under the guidance of Gunther Bosch and Ion Tiriac. The following year, he became the youngest winner of the Wimbledon Singles tournament and the youngest winner of the Cincinnati Open. Becker went on to become a highly decorated player with 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles to his name. His game was based on a fast and well-placed serve with a diving volley as his trademark skill.
