Catherine Lisa Bell studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse with Milton Katselas and began her career with bit roles that had few lines such as on the sitcom "Sugar and Spice" and "JAG." She also did body double work such as serving as the nude body double for Isabella Rossellini in "Death Becomes Her." She starred in "Men of War" in 1994 and later began playing a more major role in "JAG" as Marine Corps lawyer Sarah MacKenzie. She also starred in "Amery Wives" as Denise Sherwood and "The Good Witch" series as Cassandra Nightingale.
