Chloe Bailey is a songwriter and singer. She rose to fame as one half of the musical group Chloe x Halle with her sister Halle Bailey. Together, the duo has released two studio albums. Upon release, their second album, “Ungodly Hour,” was widely praised. Bailey released her debut solo single, “Have Mercy,” in 2021, which was certified platinum in the U.S. Her debut studio album, “In Pieces,” was released in 2023, to positive reviews from critics.

Bailey was raised in Georgia with her sister and younger brother, Branson. The family eventually moved to Los Angeles in 2012. While living in Georgia, Bailey played minor roles in movies, including “The Fighting Temptations,” starring Beyonce and the Disney TV movie “Let It Shine.” Their father started teaching them how to write songs at ages ten and eight. They created a YouTube channel at 11 and 13 with a cover of Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had.” The duo first performed as Chloe x Halle when sharing covers of pop songs on this channel. The duo made their talk show debut when they appeared on “The Ellen Show” in April 2012. In 2013, Bailey appeared in the Disney series “Austin & Ally,” performing the song “Unstoppable.” She and her sister signed with Parkwood Entertainment in 2015.

In 2018, Bailey was cast as Jazlyn Foster on the TV show “Grown-ish” after singing the series’ theme song. The song “The Kids Are Alright” was also featured in the series premiere. At the end of the fourth season, she left the series when her character graduated from college. After teasing the song numerous times before, Bailey announced the release of her debut solo single, “Have Mercy,” in August 2021.

She revealed that the album was “90 percent done” and was more pop-oriented. In September of the same year, she performed “Have Mercy” at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. At the 53rd NAACP Image Awards, Bailey was nominated in three categories: Outstanding Soul/R&B Song for “Have Mercy” and Outstanding Female Artist.
