Saquon Barkley is a NFL running back who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at Penn State, where he established multiple school records for offensive performance over three seasons before opting to forgo his senior year and declare for the NFL Draft.

Barkley was born to Alibay Barkley, a former boxer, and Tonya Johnson. He has three brothers and two sisters, with his brother Alibay Jr. having been drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in Major League Baseball. His great uncle, Iran Barkley, is a former WBC middleweight champion. Seeking a safer environment, the family relocated to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Saquon attended Whitehall High School. There, he showcased his athletic prowess in football and track and field, earning recognition as a four-star recruit.

Barkley committed to Penn State University, where he played for the Nittany Lions from 2015 to 2017. In his freshman year, he rushed for 1,076 yards and seven touchdowns, setting a school record for most rushing yards by a freshman. His sophomore season saw him amass 1,496 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, earning him the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year award. As a junior, he continued to excel, totaling 1,271 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, while also contributing significantly in receiving and kick returns. He finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in 2017 and set multiple school records, including most all-purpose career yards (5,538) and most career rushing touchdowns (43). Following his junior year, Barkley declared for the NFL Draft, forgoing his senior season.

In the 2018 NFL Draft, Barkley was selected second overall by the New York Giants. He made an immediate impact, rushing for 1,307 yards and 11 touchdowns, and catching 91 passes for 721 yards and four touchdowns in his rookie season. His 91 receptions set an NFL record for a rookie running back. He was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and earned a Pro Bowl selection. Over the next few seasons, Barkley faced challenges, including a significant knee injury in 2020 that sidelined him for most of the season. He returned to form in 2022, earning another Pro Bowl selection. In 2024, he led the NFL in rushing yards, surpassing 2,000 yards, and was named a first-team All-Pro. Following the 2023 season, Barkley signed a three-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. In his first season with the Eagles, he continued his stellar performance, helping the team reach Super Bowl LIX.

Off the field, Barkley met Anna Congdon at Penn State in 2017, and the couple has been together since. They welcomed their first child, daughter Jada, in April 2018, just days before Barkley was drafted into the NFL. Their son, Saquon Jr., was born in September 2022. In February 2025, Barkley announced their engagement, expressing gratitude for Congdon's unwavering support throughout his career.
