His parents didn’t baptize him as a child because they wanted him to make his own religious decisions. The actor has stated that he’s not a Scientologist, however he looked into the religion a few times over the years. He also revealed that he received advice from a celebrity friend.
“From a young kid, I was quite interested in religion,” the award-winning actor explained in an interview with “People” magazine. “When I met Tom Cruise when he was married to [fellow Aussie] Nicole [Kidman], we were spending a bit of time together so I thought I’d find out a little bit about what he was into. I never ended up putting my two cents down on anybody’s table. I’ve never graced [Scientology’s] doorway.”
