Born Marshall Mathers, Eminem has become one of the most successful and influential rappers of all time. Known for his hard-hitting and comedic lyrics and a tumultuous life chronicled in the film "8 Mile," he has sold more than 220 million recordings and earned 15 Grammy Awards, eight American Music Awards, 17 Billboard Music Awards, a Primetime Emmy Award, and an MTV Europe Music Global Icon Award. In 2022, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In the 2000s, he was the best-selling artist of the decade, according to Billboard; in 2004, Eminem went on hiatus, reportedly because of a prescription drug addiction. When he returned to the industry with "Relapse" and "Recovery," he hit the top of the charts again, with "Recovery" becoming the best-selling album of 2010. "The Marshall Mathers LP 2," "Revival," "Kamikaze," "Music to Be Murdered By," and "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" debuted at the top of the US Billboard 200.

Although Eminem is frequently criticized for his lyrics, which are sometimes violent and gritty, fellow music artists have supported him. Elton John, who sang the chorus to "Stan" at the 2001 Grammy, praised him as a modern poet: "Eminem is a true poet of his time, someone we'll be talking about for decades to come. He tells stories in such a powerful and distinctive way. As a lyricist, he's one of the best ever. Eminem does for his audience what (Bob) Dylan did for his: He writes how he feels. His anger, vulnerability and humor come out."

Eminem has released two books, "The Way I Am" and "Angry Blonde. " He was the star of his autobiographical drama "8 Mile" and has appeared in cameos in other films such as "The Interview" and "Funny People." He was offered the lead role in "Elysium" and was considered for "Jumper," but has said his first passion is music.

Eminem was married twice to Kimberly Anne Scott, whom he met in high school while rapping LL Cool J’s “I’m Bad” on a table. Scott and her twin sister had run away from home and moved in with Eminem and his mother when he was 15 years old. He and Scott began an on-again, off-again relationship on January 14, 1991.

Their daughter, Hailie Jade, Eminem’s only biological child, was born on December 25, 1995. The couple married on June 14, 1999, but divorced on October 12, 2001. Despite publicly stating in 2002 that he would never remarry, Eminem and Scott briefly reconciled and remarried on January 14, 2006. However, by April, he filed for divorce again, which was finalized on December 18, 2006. They agreed to joint custody of Hailie. In 2010, Eminem denied rumors of rekindling their relationship but confirmed they remained on good terms.

Hailie Jade has since built a career as a fashion and beauty influencer. On July 16, 2022, she launched the "Just A Little Shady" podcast with her childhood friend Brittany Ednie, with the first episode reflecting on her childhood as Eminem’s daughter.

Eminem legally adopted Alaina Marie, the daughter of his former sister-in-law, and Stevie Laine, Scott’s child from another relationship. He also took on a parental role for his younger half-brother, Nathan.

What religion is Eminem?

During the height of Eminem's popularity, Christian rapper KJ-52 responded to Eminem's song "Stan," detailing a communication between a deranged fan and the singer, with an evangelistic hip-hop song aimed at the rapper called "Dear Slim." Through a mutual friend, KJ-52 knows that Eminem heard the song and believes he responded in a song called "Be Careful What You Wish For," which mentions a fan praying for him and how he felt he already had "God on my side."

While Eminem has frequently used Christian terms and imagery in his songs, his most recent explicit admission of faith is in the "Use This Gospel (Remix)" by DJ Khaled, where he says, "Bible at my side like a rifle with a God-given gift/ Every single day I thank God for/That's why I pay so much homage/ Praises to Jesus, I'll always." In his 1996 song, "It's Okay," he said, "In the midst of this insanity / I've found my Christianity / through God, and there's a wish he granted me / He showed me how to cope with this stress and hope for the best / Instead of moping depressed."
