Garfield is an English- American actor born in Los Angeles but raised in Epsom, Surrey. His father was American and his mother British, and he says he identifies with both cultures and has a duel passport. His acting career started when he studied at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama.

He had a supporting role in the Facebook social media movie, The Social Network, and starred in the 2012 make of Spider-Man as Peter Parker as well as a sequel which was released in 2014. The Social Network, which co-starred actors Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake, won 3 academy awards and introduced Garfield into the world of Hollywood fame. His later Spider-Man performance topped the box office in the opening weekend earning $65 million.

After his breakup with actress Shannon Woodward, Garfield started dating his Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone in 2011, although he tries to remain private about his love-life in interviews. Garfield stated that he was a life-long Spider-Man fan and remembers dressing up as the legendary superhero for Halloween as a child.
