Myles Lorenz Garrett, born on December 29, 1995, is a professional football defensive end for the Cleveland Browns in the NFL. He showcased his talents at Texas A&M, where he earned unanimous All-American honors in 2016. Selected as the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Browns, Garrett has since become the franchise's all-time leader in sacks. His impressive career includes six Pro Bowl appearances and four first-team All-Pro selections, and he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
Garrett was born and raised in Arlington, Texas, and was awarded as the top high school player in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The Rivals.com recruiting network rated him a five-star recruit and ranked him second best overall player in his class. He also qualified for the state meet in track and field, with top throws of 16.01 meters in the shot put and 50.84 meters in the discus throw.
In 2024, Garrett had 14 sacks, 47 tackles, one pass defended, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery, and led the NFL in tackles-for-loss with 22. He earned his sixth Pro Bowl nomination and fourth first-team All-Pro nomination.
Garrett made a public declaration of his mental health in 2015 by suspending his time on the Twitter social media account. He cited the negativity on the site: "If I want to move forward as a person and as a football player, I don't need other people's opinions and other things to stock with me or be in my mind when I have other things to keep doing."
Off the field, Garrett writes poetry and has worked on a dinosaur book for children. In 2023, Garrett purchased minority ownership in the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team and serves as its ambassador.
What religion is Myles Garrett?
Myles Garrett has expressed a Christian worldview concerning the importance of being part of a team. A newspaper story noted Garrett's workout shirt bearing the scripture Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: "Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."
In 2023, while accepting the award at the NFL Honors, Garrett said, "First of all, I want to say all glory to the most high. Without him, I would not be here in front of y'all today,"
In 2024, Garrett teamed up with The Word Church in Cleveland, Ohio, to give to more than 2,000 children during the Christmas season. "All these smiling faces and these families, parents, kids, that means more to me than any big play on Sunday."
