Óscar Isaac Hernández Estrada is a Guatemalan- American actor. He was born on March 9, 1979, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. His mother is Guatemalan and his father is Cuban. He is the middle child of two siblings. His older sister, Nicole Hernandez, is a climate scientist and his younger brother, Mike Hernandez, is a journalist. His family immigrated to America when he was an infant, and they moved around to different states such as Washington D.C., Virginia, Louisiana, Maryland, Florida, where they stayed in Miami. He explained his Evangelical upbringing as "very Christian." He also shared that his lineage has French roots via his grandfather and says he is "definitely a big mix of many things.” During his adolescence, Isaac often got into trouble at his private grade school, Westminster Christian. "I set off a fire extinguisher in the gym, defaced a mural, just stupid stuff", the actor reminisced in an interview. He enjoyed making his classmates laugh and liked to be the “class clown.” His mischief got so bad one day that his teacher had to isolate his desk from the rest of the class with a cardboard divider. After causing more havoc in the classroom, he was expelled. Prior to becoming an actor, he was the lead guitarist and vocalist in his band “the Blinking Underdogs.” After honing his talent and taking his education more seriously, he graduated from the Juilliard School in 2005.

Isaac's breakout movie role was his portrayal of Joseph in the 2006 film “The Nativity Story.” Since then, the actor has won many awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. His most recent project was starring in the 2021 blockbuster film “Dune”. In 2012 he started a relationship with fellow industry professional, Danish director Elvira Lind. The couple are currently married and have two sons.
