Carole King is a musician and singer-songwriter. She started as a staff songwriter in the Brill Building but branched off to do solo work. She’s the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century, writing or co-writing 118 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. King’s mainstream success started in the 1960s, when she and her husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote over two dozen chart hits. However, King didn’t start singing her own songs until the 1970s. She’s been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and won four Grammys.
