Melissa Leo is an American actress who began her career in the 1980's. Unusually for an actress, her acting debut also earned her a nomination for one of the professions highest awards, an Emmy. She was nominated in 1984 for her work on the drama series "All My Children." Following her nomination, Leo transitioned to working in films such as "Streetwalkin'," "A Time of Destiny" and "Last Summer in the Hamptons." It was David O. Russell's "The Fighter," however, that catapulted her into fame. She recieved a number of awards for her performance, including an Academy Award and Golden Globe.
