Levi was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana. As a child, his family moved across several states before returning home to Ventura, California, where he attended Buena High School. What religion is Zachary Levi?
Levi is an outspoken Christian. While battling anxiety and depression, the actor said learning to love himself came from seeing himself as God sees him: Fearfully and wonderfully made, inherently valuable despite many accolades and achievements. According to Levi, understanding his identity in Christ, along with therapy and support, was life-changing.
He said, "When I was in the darkness, it was the first time in my life five years ago when I felt perhaps there is no God. In that moment, I didn't believe in a God because if there was a God, I don't know why I would be going through the darkness that I was going through where I felt there was no God." However, Levi was able to come out on the other side.
In a 2021 interview with The Christian Post, Levi said playing Kurt Warner in "American Underdog" helped bolster his faith, saying, "I think [my faith] was just bolstered. It was bolstering to know that these people have maintained who they are, maintained their identity, maintained integrity. Their faith has even changed and evolved and grown as it's supposed to do, as they've matured and gotten older and or understood more things."
