Julie Anne Smith’s father was a paratrooper for the U.S. Army, and Julianne was born at Fort Bragg, South Carolina. Her father later served as a colonel, and then as a military judge. Julianne moved to New York City as an adult to pursue an acting career, and started with Broadway Theater and television roles in 1984. Her big break came when in 1997 she received her first Academy Award nomination for Boogie Nights, and her career has since included many Hollywood blockbusters.
