Brock Purdy is an NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for the Iowa State Cyclones and was selected by the 49ers with the final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, becoming that year's "Mr. Irrelevant."
Brock Purdy's roots trace back to the sun-soaked town of Gilbert, Arizona, a stark contrast to the football field's high-octane environment he now graces. The youngest of four children, Brock was the last addition to the athletic Purdy family. His father, Shawn Purdy, hung up his cleats as a minor league baseball player, and his mother, Carrie Purdy, was a stand-out in the college softball world.
Growing up, the Purdy household was a breeding ground for champions, with each family member participating in sports. This familial immersion in athletics laid the foundation for Brock's love for sports and carved the path for his future in football. He was not born into the spotlight he currently basks in but was nurtured in an environment of friendly competition, encouragement, and sportive fun.
Brock Purdy’s journey from a high school star to a record-breaking quarterback at Iowa State University is nothing short of inspiring. His athletic journey took off at Perry High School in Arizona where his exceptional skills as a quarterback became evident early on. His remarkable performance did not go unnoticed and he garnered attention from numerous colleges across the country.
Ultimately, he chose to attend Iowa State University in 2018, a decision that would pave the way for an impressive college career. Brock wasted no time in making his mark at Iowa State. He shattered multiple records including the school's single-season passing record, firmly establishing himself as a formidable force on the field.
In his freshman year, he was honored with the Big 12’s Offensive Freshman of the Year award. Purdy holds the career records for passing yards, completions, attempts, completion percentage, passing touchdowns, and the top two longest passing touchdown streaks in Iowa State history.
Purdy declared for the 2022 NFL Draft with mixed projections as to when he'd be selected. Draft Wire didn't include him in a top 300 prospects ranking; Pro Football Focus rated him as the 165th prospect of the draft; NFL.com rated him as the 15th-best quarterback in the class and graded him as a priority undrafted free agent.
After 261 names were called, the San Francisco 49ers made Purdy the final and 262nd pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. Purdy was one of the most surprising Cinderella stories of the 2022 season, going from Mr. Irrelevant in April to leading his team to the NFC Championship Game in January. Purdy took over as the 49ers' starter in Week 13. In just his second NFL season in 2023, Purdy was the third-lowest drafted quarterback to ever start a Super Bowl with only Hall of Famer Kurt Warner and Jake Delhomme ahead of him as undrafted players to start in the Big Game.
Off the field, Purdy proposed to his girlfriend Jenna Brandt in July 2023. The two met at Iowa State where Brandt played for the Cyclones' volleyball team before she transferred to Northern Iowa.
Brock Purdy's Religious Beliefs
Integral to Brock's persona is his profound Christian faith, a legacy he inherited from his deeply religious family. Purdy has long been bold to share about his faith and how it impacts his football career. He describes himself as a “believer in Christ” in his X bio and a “follower of Jesus” on Instagram. “I believe that Jesus Christ did come down, and died for my sins and rose again, and He is living and sitting beside God (the Father) on the throne,” Purdy told Sports Spectrum. “And so I believe that. It’s not just some story fairytale thing. It’s real. And it allows me to stay level-headed and real with life.”Back to the Celebrity Faith Database
