Started singing in church very young, and as a young girl. A childhood friend with fellow Destiny’s Child member Beyoncé Knowles, they formed their first group in 1990 with two other singers called Girl’s Tyme. They enjoyed modest success by the time they changed their name to Destiny’s Child. Their self- titled album sold fairly well, but it was the release of The Writing’s on the Wall that shot them to superstardom, selling 15 million copies, with the hit Say My Name. Destiny’s Child split when some of the band’s members soured on the relationship with the group’s manager and left to be replaced by Michelle Williams.
Kelly’s solo career flourished in the UK and Australia. Kelly also reunited with Destiny’s Child as they performed at halftime of Super Bowl XLVII.
