Paul Rudd is an actor who studied theater at the University of Kansas and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before making his acting debut in 1991. In 2015, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was included on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2019. People Magazine named him their “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2021.
His movies include “Clueless,” “Romeo + Juliet,” “Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers,” “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.” He’s best known for playing Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with “Ant-Man” in 2015 and most recently in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantunmania” in 2023. Rudd has also appeared in multiple TV shows, including “Friends” as Mike Hannigan, with guest roles on shows like “Reno 911!,” Parks and Recreation,” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!” Rudd had a dual role in the Netflix series “Living with Yourself,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He’s also starred in the mini-series “The Shrink Next Door.”
Rudd was born in Passaic, New Jersey, to English-Jewish parents. His father, Michael, worked as a historical tour guide, while his mother, Gloria, was a sales manager at a TV station. His parents are from London, with his father hailing from Edgware and his mother from Surbiton. They descend from Ashkenazi Jewish immigrants who moved to England from Belarus, Poland and Russia. Rudd’s grandfather changed his family’s original surname from Rudnitsky to Rudd. When he was 10, his family moved to Kansas.
In Kansas, Rudd attended Broadmoor Junior High School and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1987. He attended the University of Kansas, majoring in theater. He also studied Jacobean drama at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford for three months. While in acting school, he worked as a DJ at bar mitzvahs. He had various odd jobs when he graduated, including glazing hams at the Holiday Ham Company in Overland Park.
In 2003, Rudd married Julie Yaeger, who he met in his publicist’s office, where she worked after he worked on “Clueless.” Since then, she’s become a producer and screenwriter. The couple lives in Rhinebeck, New York, with their two children.

Paul Rudd identifies with the Jewish faith. His parents have Jewish lineage, but Rudd would describe himself as “not particularly religious.” In an interview with The Guardian, he said, “I was always in new schools and had British parents, which was not the norm, and I think there was also, I’m not particularly religious, but I was born Jewish, and I always felt like the outsider because I wasn’t Christian or Catholic.”
