"It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman," his brother Chad Schwieterman wrote on Facebook. Chad added, "He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer." Jan's death is said to have been a "shock" to his family and friends.

"Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time. Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you," Chad added. "Thank you, everyone, for your support. We miss JP deeply and appreciate your thoughts and prayers."

Kel Mitchell, his "Good Burger" co-star, paid tribute to Schwieterman in a heartfelt post, calling him a gifted performer and a kind soul who helped make the film unforgettable. “Rest in love, Jan,” Mitchell wrote, “Thank you for making us laugh and bringing Kurt to life in Good Burger.”
