Megan Pete, professionally known as Megan Thee Stallion, is a rapper from Houston, Texas. She gained attention when her freestyle videos became popular on social media platforms like Instagram. In 2018, she signed to 300 Entertainment, where she released her mixtape “Fever” and EP “Suga,” which both reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2020, the rapper released her debut album, “Good News,” which appeared on several year-end best albums lists.

Megan Thee Stallion earned her first and second number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with the remix to her hit song “Savage” featuring Beyonce and her feature on Cardi B’s song “WAP,” which was her first number-one in several countries and on the Billboard Global 200 chart. In 2021, she was on Ariana Grande’s remix of “34+35” with Doja Cat, which hit number two on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed up that success with her debut compilation album “Something for Thee Hotties,” which reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200.

The Houston rapper has received several accolades throughout her career, including five BET Hip Hop Awards, six BET Awards, four AMA Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and three Grammys. At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, she became the second female rapper to win Best New Artist, after Lauryn Hill in 1999. TIME named her one of the most influential people in the world on their annual list in 2020. She has also focused on her education outside of music, graduating from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Administration in 2021.

Megan Jovon Ruth Pete was born in San Antonio, Texas, but her mother, Holly Thomas, moved to Houston after her birth. Thomas was also a rapper, performing under the name Holly-Wood and would bring her daughter to recording sessions instead of putting her in daycare. Pete was raised in the South Park neighborhood of Houston before moving with her mother to Pearland when she was 14, where she lived until she was 18. Pete started writing raps when she was 14, eventually showing her mother her rapping skills when she was 18. Her mother made her wait until she was 21 to pursue rapping as a career, saying that her lyrics were too sexually suggestive for her age.
