Max von Sydow, born Carl Adolf von Sydow, was a Swedish actor who was featured in more than 100 films and TV series throughout his decade’s long career. He was mentored by Swedish director Ingmar Bergman and starred in many of his films including “The Seventh Seal” and “Wild Strawberries.” His deep voice, tall/lanky body, and stern face made him great for antagonist roles, in which he was often typecast in Hollywood as the "Sophisticated villain." Some of his most famous villain roles include Emperor Ming the Merciless in “Flash Gordon” and Ernst Stavro Blofeld in “Never Say Never Again.” The actor passed away on March 8th, 2020.
