Before acting, Mark Wahlberg was part of the Funky Bunch and known as Marky Mark. As a teenager he spent time in jail for assaulting two individuals. The Golden Globe nominated actor credits that experience as a wake-up call to improve his life and make positive choices. In an interview with Pierce Morgan Wahlberg said, “My faith has really allowed me to overcome a lot of things and hard work. You know, nothing comes easy, especially when you‘ve got your back against the wall and you’ve got a lot going against you.”

Wahlberg goes to church for at least 15 to 20 minutes daily and prays. Going to church allows Wahlberg to begin each day with a clear outlook and helps him avoid negativity. He went on to say, in an interview with Pierce Morgan, “I pray to be a good servant to God, a father, a husband, a son, a friend, a brother and uncle, a good neighbor, a good leader to those who look up to me and a good follower to those that are serving God and doing the right thing.”  In an interview with Walter Scott, Wahlberg stated, "Faith keeps me focused, patient, calm, happy and gives me joy. I start and end my day in prayer. It keeps me grateful, humble, hungry, committed to trying to do more and be more positive. It is the reason for everything good in my life."
