Dick may be best remembered for his portrayal as the first Darrin Stephens on the ABC TV sitcom Bewitched. In the years prior, he’d been a character of the radio show That Brewster Boy, appeared on Broadway, and transitioned into film, with roles including They Came to Cordura. It was this film during which Dick injured his back and was later haunted by an addiction to pain killers as a result. It’s due to this that, in later episodes of Bewitched, he was filmed always lying down. Dick left the show mid-run to seek help for addiction. Afterwards, he appeared in several primetime television series, like Simon and Simon and Fantasy Island. York famously smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day and died of emphysema at the age of 63.
