OVERVIEW
Across the globe, 22,000 children die each day from preventable causes. In Africa, nearly half of those deaths are from diarrheal diseases.
Population forecasts suggest that an additional 632 million people will need to gain access to improved sources to meet the Millennium Development Goal drinking water target. Accelerated progress is needed in sub-Saharan Africa, home to 37% of those without improved drinking water sources.
All told, nearly 900 million people still rely on drinking water sources that are unsafe.
UNICEF is the international leader in providing clean, safe drinking water to millions around the world who need it most. UNICEF is on the front lines, doing whatever it takes to stop children dying from lack of access to clean, safe water and sanitation.
22,000 children every day. With a focus on access to clean water, we can bring that number closer to ZERO.
Take action and sign this petition in support of supplying clean, safe drinking water to the world’s poorest populations.
PETITION LETTER
Take the pledge:
I want to help get clean, safe water to those who need it most.
I support UNICEF’s life-saving efforts to get sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation to the poorest communities around the globe.
Safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation facilities are basic necessities required for health and for success in the fight against poverty, hunger, child deaths and gender inequality around the world.
It is also central to the human rights and personal dignity of every woman, man and child on earth.
