Review: The story of Chicken Big touched my heart.  A giant chick hatches out of an egg and its size perplexes all of the other chickens.  They are skittish and standoffish towards the new chick.  But Chicken Big doesn’t close his heart as a result of the behavior of his community.  Instead, he uses his unique size and strength to help the other chickens—until they finally come to their senses and embrace him.

Chicken Big is a delightful story that is rich in spiritual lessons without a single reference to spirit!  Perhaps it is the books subtlety that makes it so effective as a parable to help children learn how to handle their own differences and how to treat others who initially seem different from themselves.
