Women have served in the military since the birth of America. This is atribute to the women who have served in the nation’s defense since the American revolution. Unique etchings, one-of-a-kind drawings and long-forgotten diaries tell of women in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars who disguised themselves as men to serve the cause of freedom. Photographs and early newsreel footage capture women answering the call in World Wars I and II; and film and video interviews continue the story into the modern era with military women who are breaking down barriers on land and sea, and in the air.
