As a 2LT stationed at Ft Benning during the ’70’s, I was walking with our BN Exec Officer when we passed a Medical Services CPT (DR) with in Class A’s wearing a hat with “scrambled eggs” on the visor. Thinking the CPT had picked up the wrong hat during lunch at the O Club, the Major barked “CPT, you’ve got the wrong hat”. The young CPT/ DR took off the cap, looked at the name inside and said, “No sir, it’s mine”.

The Major said, You’ve got gold braid on the visor”.

Yes, said the CPT, I was at Clothing Sales yesterday, and when I saw these, they only wanted $5 more for the fancy version, so I thought it was a great deal.”
