I get so many questions about forgiveness. So many times we have forgiveness connected to the idea of right and wrong. In a sense it is connected because if we hadn’t judged something in the first place we wouldn’t have the need for forgiveness but that is an entirely different conversation.
The decision to not forgive is like holding onto a hot potato, it hurts us not the person we are refusing to forgive. Forgiveness is a gift we give to ourselves and really has nothing to do with the other person. The more freely we open our hearts and forgive the more freedom and joy we feel in return. Angels willingly help us to see life from a perspective free of judgment, pain and suffering
Letting go and freeing yourself
One of my spiritual mentors told me there was two ways to let go of something. He held a pencil in his hand, palm facing and opened his fingers. He had let go but he sill had the pencil. Then he turned his hand over, opened his fingers and the pencil fell effortlessly to the floor. If you really want to free yourself from the past open your heart, let the love in and allow the past to fall away.
People often say that sounds easy but …. and then they go on to tell me the story, their version of the painful situation, long past but often repeated. Each time we repeat the story we hurt ourselves again and again.
Recently I watched an episode of Ryan and Tatum O’Neil in the OWN network. Each one of them have such a different perspective. Tatum’s emotional pain was palpable as was Ryan’s totally different version of the past. I was reminded of my dad and I. I am so grateful I was able to release my stories about my dad and spend the last nine months of his life caring for him, feeling his love and just loving him.
Forgiveness happens the moment we are willing to let go of our story
Angels don’t judge, they only love so they have no need for forgiveness. They certainly can help us become willing to forgive. When all else fails ask the angels to help you see life through their eyes.
Life is a precious, wonderful cosmic dance we get to do together. Sometimes we step on one another’s toes, sometimes we forget the dance steps altogether and at times we forget we can change partners whenever we want.
Play with forgiveness, give yourself the gift of forgiveness and embrace the powerful, expansive, unconditional love that always exists just beyond our judgments.
