There is only one variety of committed opponent to the legality of all or most abortion who holds a position I can respect as indicating personal sincerity, a sense of responsibility,  and moral integrity.

Only one.

Those who take so seriously the inviolability of all life that might be human that they

1. support universal health care for children

2. support sexual education, family planning, and the ready
availability of contraceptives to anyone so that virtually all children who are
born are wanted

3. Support programs with a proven record of aiding children in becoming happier or more competent adults.

3. oppose the death penalty

4. oppose aggressive war

5. oppose torture

Thse who also hold those positions I recognize as truly
sincere in wanting to protect what they regard as all innocent human
life.  I still differ with them, but with respect to their position, I admit I might be wrong.

The rest, all of them, every last one who takes a strong stand to end a woman’s right to choose for herself, either publicly or in the voting booth, are either

(1) moral simpletons who haven’t given their position much thought, and so are irresponsible because of the impact of their views on others, or

(2) addicted to self-righteousness or mindless sentimentality, or

(3) something much
worse.

The leaders are entirely or almost entirely in category 3.

The number of people opposed to abortion whom I think need to be taken
seriously as morally and ethically concerned people is rather small.
