ConVocation XIII: “Sacrifice: Instrument of Change”
I will be a guest of honor at Convocation XIII in Detroit at the Hilton/Troy in Troy, Michigan. The Convention rate is $81/noght. Use “CVC” when making reservations.
Fri from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM I will speak on Sacrifice, Death, and the Cosmic Potlach
Death is Life’s greatest mystery. But life itself is filled with many deaths, and perhaps we can learn about the Big One from what we can see in the little ones. A well lived life inevitably has a sacrificial aspect, as does any great growth on our part. We will discuss these universal patterns, exploring not only how they play a role in the world on which we all live, but also within our own lives.
On Sat from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM I will discuss Harvest: Pagan Perspectives on Life and Death
The harvest is a time of abundance, of reaping the rewards of our labor and of Nature’s bounty. But it has a bittersweet side, for the harvest is also an ending, the ending of life, of new growth, a completion after which lies – what? This workshop will begin with a short talk after which we will discuss among ourselves what this part of the wheel of the year means for us as Pagans and as people.
Sun from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM I will meet convention participants for coffee and
Sun at 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM I will speak on The Return of the Divine Feminine
Based on a book in progress. During the ’60s feminine values embedded themselves within American patriarchal culture. Feminism, environmentalism, alternative religion, and exploring consciousness are examples. This cultural upheaval led to the current US “culture war.” Nevertheless, only by integrating the Divine Feminine can spirituality overcome secular modernity, resacralizing human experience. NeoPaganism may play a historical role out of all proportion to our numbers.
