These new terrorism arrests and the exposure of a plot to blow up perhaps a dozen planes heading to the US coincided exactly with the lingering effects of the Full Moon. Evidently the investigations that led to the arrests had been going on for quite some time in a cooperative enterprise between the British and Pakistani police. 24 suspects were arrested in Britain, with additional British nationals of Pakistani origin arrested in Pakistan.

The opposition between Mars (the aggressive instinct of individuals) with Uranus (radical change and sudden shifts) is coming to a head as it approaches the exact degree on August 13 and we are certain to see an increase in things like road rage and reckless behavior as well as the more global effects of heightened warfare and breakdowns in negotiations.

I just saw the film Batman Begins for the first time, and one of the main themes of that film is facing your fears. In this movie Bruce Wayne uses his experience as a child where he was terrified by bats as a persona for his vehicle of his life’s work to battle with the forces of evil.

Eckhart Tolle has an amazing ability to communicate the simplest truths about the complex subject of consciousness. He writes about fear:

The psychological condition of fear is divorced from any concrete and true immediate danger. It comes in many forms: unease, worry, anxiety, nervousness, tension, dread, phobia, and so on. This kind of psychological fear is always of something that might happen, not of something that is happening now. You are in the here and now, while your mind is in the future. This creates an anxiety gap. And if you are identified with your mind and have lost touch with the power and simplicity of the Now, that anxiety gap will be your constant companion. You can always cope with the present moment, but you cannot cope with something that is only a mind projection – you cannot cope with the future.

Moreover, as long as you are identified with your mind, the ego runs your life. Because of its phantom nature, and despite elaborate defense mechanisms, the ego is very vulnerable and insecure, and it sees itself as constantly under threat. This, by the way, is the case even if the ego is outwardly very confident. Now remember that an emotion is the body’s reaction to your mind. What message is the body receiving continuously from the ego, the false, mind-made self? Danger, I am under threat. And what is the emotion generated by this continuous message? Fear, of course.

Watch out for any kind of defensiveness within yourself. What are you defending? An illusory identity, an image in your mind, a fictitious entity. By making this pattern conscious, by witnessing it, you disidentify from it. In the light of your consciousness, the unconscious pattern will then quickly dissolve.

This is the end of all arguments and power games, which are so corrosive to relationships. Power over others is weakness disguised as strength. True power is within, and it is available to you now. Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life.

Whereas before you dwelt in time and paid brief visits to the Now, have your dwelling place in the Now and pay brief visits to past and future when required to deal with the practical aspects of your life situation.

Always say “yes” to the present moment.

Although the challenging astrological cycles of 2006 will ease towards the end of the year, we are heading towards a difficult period beginning in 2008 when Pluto enters Capricorn and approaches the square with Uranus and our world as we know it begins to shift into new forms. We cannot let ourselves become mired in fear of known and unknown dangers, but instead we can remain aware of and relish the small beauties that are inherent in each moment of our life: the touch of a loved one, the sight of a butterfly, the taste of a perfect berry. In this way we can experience the best of our life which will expand our awareness and deepen our understanding.
