After a highly publicized ordeal involving UC Berkeley and Ann Coulter, and after the latter insisted as recently as just a few hours before the time of this writing that she would speak at Berkeley irrespectively of the fact that administrators had done all that they could to prevent her from being heard, Ann has decided to…cancel her event.

“There will be no speech,” she wrote in an email to Reuters. Two groups that originally planned on sponsoring her had backed out.  “I looked over my shoulder and my allies had joined the other team.” Ann added: “I have no sponsor, no lawyer, no court order.  I can’t vindicate constitutional rights on my own.  I was just supposed to give the speech.”

Whether these were the only considerations that led a defiant Ann Coulter to reverse course as dramatically and abruptly as she did is questionable.  For the time being, they are also beside the point.  The points that are worth focusing on here are three-fold.

First, the left has thrust the country into a new era of political violence. That’s right.  It is on the collective shoulders of the militant, neo-communist left, and no one else, on which the burden for this violence directly rests.  That being said, while the domestic terrorists of Black Lives Matter, the so-called “antifa,” and those who are physically attacking their opponents are directly responsible for the mayhem, their ideological ilk in the Democrat Party and its network of propaganda organs—the “media” and Hollywood—own this as well.

Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi—they have both fueled the flames with their reckless rhetoric and sat in silence as the anti-American terrorist wing of their party victimized innocents.

They deserve and, God-permitting, will receive their comeuppance.

Second, this being said, it would be unfair to blame only the Democrats and their leftist comrades for leftist terrorism.  Republicans, too, deserve to be called out for failing to use the new found power that tens of millions of Americans delivered to them over the span of the last nearly seven years.  They control both chambers of Congress, the Presidency, most state legislatures, and most gubernatorial offices.

Yet Republicans have wholly failed to wield their influence to call the nation’s attention to the many abuses that the members of their base have suffered because of their politics, to say nothing of lifting a finger to actually do anything to see to it that the outrages end.

Most disappointing, most exasperating, of all has been President Trump’s response—or lack of response—to all of this.  In February, leftist terrorist-thugs rioted in order to prevent Milo Yiannopoulos from speaking at Berkeley, assaulting innocents and inflicting over $100,000 worth of damage to the school. In response, Trump deployed, not the National Guard, but a single tweet.  He suggested that unless Berkeley, a state-financed institution, protected the speech and person of the members of its community, it risked losing federal funds.

Well, Berkeley has not done any such thing.  Yet it continues to be supported.

And unless I am mistaken, the President hasn’t commented again on the anti-Americanism to which Berkeley is home.

From virtually the time that he entered the presidential race in June of 2015 until the present over tens of millions of Americans who support Trump have been subject to a massive media-driven demonization campaign.  They are, after all, “the Deplorables.”  Many tens of thousands of these folks attended his rallies and endured violence courtesy of the very left-wing vermin that Berkeley now assures us promises to crash Coulter’s speaking engagement.

The man who promised that he would be the Law and Order President is doing no more with respect to restoring and maintaining law and order in cities and on college campuses than did his immediate predecessor.  He owes it to the Constitution that he swore to uphold and to the people who put him in office to use every opportunity to decry the savagery, hatred, and, yes, terrorism of the radical left.

Trump should also continually call out Democrat politicians and their media apologists for fostering a climate that is ripe for the violence that their street soldiers have unleashed upon innocent civilians.  He needs to make George Soros and other Democrat leftist sponsors of this terrorism “Public Enemy Number One.”

He’s done none of these things so far.

Thirdly and, in my estimation, most importantly of all, the “anti-fascist,” anti-American left from which Ann and her “conservative” sponsors are now running were themselves run out of their own town of Berkeley not even two full weeks ago.  While holding a rally in support of free speech—what the organizers and attendees called “Patriots’ Day”—legions of Trump supporters and others came under attack by “the black bloc” (thugs in black wearing masks). Yet the patriots were ready.  They beat the terrorists and drove them from their own neighborhood.

For some reason (I will proffer my theory as to why this is at a later time), no one in official “conservative-dom” has devoted any coverage to what the internet now hails as “the Battle for Berkeley.

Nor has anyone, including Ann Coulter herself, mentioned that lots of men are planning on descending upon Berkeley once again to protect her. The Oath Keepers—retired law enforcement officers and military veterans; Civil Defense Action; the Three Percenters; Bikers for Trump; and the Proud Boys—these are some of the groups that helped numerous other patriots, like the overnight internet sensation, “the Based Stickman,”  rid Berkeley of “anti-fa” terrorists on April 15.  They have been busy recruiting supports for Ann’s speech. One quite famous Youtube personality claimed to have offered $1,000 to each person who traveled to Berkeley to greet Ann and meet head-on the terrorists.

Then Ann cancelled.

The good news, though, is that while Ann Coulter will not be speaking, Berkeley is still the destination for the foregoing patriots.  Gavin McInnes (of Proud Boys and a personal friend of Ann Coulter), 22 year-old Lauren Southern, and 25 year-old Brittany Pettibone are among those who will be addressing attendees.

These patriots who are able and willing to literally fight the barbarians at Berkeley—and beyond—deserve a public expression of gratitude from Ann Coulter.

In fact, they deserve the thanks and unmitigated support of every American who loves his or her country. Their patriotism and bravery should be wall-to-wall coverage in the “conservative” media.

What a tragic commentary that their heroic exploits have been ignored.
