This week I moved into a new house. Led there by a lovely guide, the house has three large, exquisitely decorated rooms that lead to a beautiful brick terrace with views of a very blue sea that looks like the Mediterranean. The spacious, airy, light living quarters promise a new and vibrant place to grow, live, love and expand with delight. When I awoke I felt very content with my dream house, like the inner work I’m doing is worthwhile and moving me into a new, better place in my life.
In many dreams houses represent the state of the soul, the inner self. They can reveal where we’re at, how we feel, and what kind of inner renovations we need to do. In ancient times many tribes used dreams and respected their wisdom. They reveal to us so many things. But today most people ignore them or shrug them off as gibberish.
If you dare to take the step and pay attention to them, they will be good companions that will let you know when you’re doing well and also when you need to improve. Carl G. Jung so loved and trusted his dreams that he made a declaration of faith in stone by actually building his dream house on Lake Zurich. It evolved as he dreamed the spaces and did his inner work over the next twenty years.
If you’d like to recall your dreams keep a pen and paper or a digital recorder by the bed. Write down or record any feelings or images immediately on waking. If you’re working on a project dreams may reveal the next step to take or help to make a new discovery. You don’t need to go to sleep to know what your inner house looks like. If you take a moment and reflect, you can imagine your house of dreams. Give it a try. What might it reveal about your state of being?
