One of the hardest and most freeing things to do in our lives is to embrace who we are. My mentor gave me a wonderful book that I just finished, The Gift of Being Yourself by David Benner. It’s a fascinating book that truly balances the spiritual aspect with the psychological part us.
For each of us, if we truly desire to experience our unique greatness, we must be willing to go through the pain-staking process of examining who we are. For many of us (self included) we have created a false self that is idealized and not truly who we are. For God to transform us, we must be honest about who we are. In essence, the more truthful we are, the more healing we can receive.
For me it has been at times excruciating, but also a joy I’ve never known before. knowing that in my darkest and most broken moment I’v love by God. Take that in. You in this very moment are loved by the Most High. You matter. So take some time and carefully pray and ask God to show you some of the things that who you are. For me it contained, pride, envy, being unforgiving, and other things coupled with compassion, love, selflessness and service. I realized that a human being is a composite of ugliness and beauty.
Today carefully examine your life and embrace ALL of who you are. The trick is we must not view this as negative. In fact as Benner say, we must “embrace ourselves hospitably” Let’s us take off the veneer and truly begin to live as God intended for us.
Remember we have the ability to not only change our world, but the world as a whole….BE GREAT!!
Until Next Time,
