Although U.S.officials have stood by their dismissal of the Pakistani Taliban’s efforts to claim credit for the Times Square bomb scare over the weekend, it appears that a Muslim man from Pakistan is the prime suspect.

The New York Times reports that Faisal Shahzad, 30, a naturalized American citizen who lives in Connecticut, was taken into custody last night after authorities pulled him off a plane bound for Dubai at New York’s JFK Airport. He has told authorities that he acted alone in the attempted car bombing.

The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) quickly released a statement praising the law enforcement officials for the arrest, while also noting that a Senegalese Muslim immigrant was reportedly the first person to notice the suspicious smoke coming from the vehicle. (In other words, Shahzad doesn’t represent Muslims in Manhattan, let alone America.)
