It’s been six months since the earthquake devastated Haiti, and as I had cynically predicted back in February, the story has all but disappeared from the headlines. (Though, to our credit, it did take the monumental Gulf of Mexico oil spill, one of the worst man-made environmental disasters on record, to eclipse it.)
Recent reports from The Montreal Gazette, NPR , and other outlets reveal that despite the huge outpouring of donations and volunteers, particularly from Christian groups like Samaritan’s Purse, the impoverished country is still struggling to remove rubble, let alone rebuild. Here are some faith-related stories on the situation:
- Six months later after earthquake, Haiti-Minnesota parish visit (Twin Cities Daily Planet)
- People of Haiti face ‘long and painful journey’ (Christian Today)
- Haiti relief efforts enter new phase (Evangelical Covenant Church)
- Papal nuncio to Haiti: Six months later, ‘we still need help’ (Catholic News Agency)
- Episcopalians in Haiti working for transformation (Episcopal Cafe)
- Six months after massive earthquake, Haiti still has a long way to go (Associated Baptist Press)
