Over the holiday weekend, it looks like my prediction about gay news overtaking Islamophobia (Obama’s Muslim roots, Park51, etc.) came to fruition: National Coming Out Day meets polarized American politics meets tragic bullying-related suicides… brace yourselves.
While I catch up on last night’s “God in America” installments on PBS, here’s a sample of the religion news and online discussions regarding gay issues, just from the last 48 hours:
- Attacking gays or stating doctrines? (GetReligion)
- My Take: People of faith must preach love in the face of anti-LGBT hate (CNN Belief Blog)
- God and gays (On Faith)
- Christian compassion requires the truth about harms of homosexuality (Tony Perkins, On Faith)
- Anti-gay violence denounced (Kelly Jasper for the Augusta Chronicle’s Amen Corner)
- NY gubernatorial candidate says God didn’t make gays (Episcopal Cafe)
- Campaigning against same-sex marriage (Religion & Public Life With Mark Silk, for Beliefnet)
- Carl Paladino Softens Remarks on Homosexuality, But Says Children Can Be ‘Brainwashed’ (David Gibson, for Politics Daily)
- Jewish newspaper catches it from both sides over same-sex wedding announcement (The Religion World, Orlando Sentinel)
- LDS leader’s speech on gays modified on website (AP)
- LDS Facebook campaign: Support Packer (Salt Lake Tribune)
BONUS: Religion Dispatches has had several related stories in the past two weeks, including “Why anti-gay bullying is a theological issue.”
