As promised, here’s a round-up of faith-related responses to President Obama’s State of the Union address last night. (I thought there would be more coverage by now, but I’ll add to it as needed — check back for more links.)
The gist: Jews are annoyed that Obama didn’t talk about Israel, Muslims are happy that he affirmed that they are part of the American family but wish he had said even more, and Christians wish he had talked more about poverty.
Jewish:
- State of the Union blogging (JTA)
- In speech, Obama misses some Jewish priorities: poverty, abortion rights, Israel (JTA)
Christian:
- The State of the Union: A Christian response to President Obama (Rev. Chuck Currie, Huffington Post)
- Faces of note in the gallery for presidential address (Catholic News Service)
Muslim:
- CAIR welcomes president’s support for U.S. Muslims in SOTU address (Council for American-Islamic Relations)
- State of the Union word cloud – 2010 compared to 2011 (City of Brass)
- American Muslims are part of our family: US president (Arab News)
Interfaith/Other:
- Andrew Finstuen: The State of the Future (Religion & Ethics Newsweekly)
- Robert H. Nelson: Sin, Sacrifice, and the State of the Union (Religion & Ethics Newsweekly)
