President Obama has talked about his Christian faith, once again. He explained at a New Mexico town hall-style discussion on the economy yesterday that he’s Christian “by choice” — wording presumably meant to reassure anyone who thinks he’s a “born Muslim” because of his atheist/estranged/deceased father’s African Muslim roots.

Obama’s response, to a question about abortion rights (so much for talking about the economy!), included this quote:

“I came to my Christian faith later in life, and it was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life that I would want to lead. Being my brothers’ and sisters’ keeper. Treating others as they would treat me. And I think also understanding that, you know, that Jesus Christ dying for my sins spoke to the humility that we all have to have as human beings.”

He goes on to talk about the importance of religious freedom for everyone, however, and — going back to the original question — reiterated that he believes abortion should be “safe, legal and rare” in America and a decision that is best made by families, not the government.

Well, that — along with his recent church attendance — should settle it for those 1-in-5 Americans who think Obama’s a Muslim. Or, not, given what else one out of every five Americans believes in. (Remember, there’s always that one dentist who holds out on recommending the healthy toothpaste, too!)
