The following meditation is from “Song of the Sparrow,” poems and meditations by Murray Bodo, O.F.M.

God hears me.

We want to believe it with all our hearts, and so we pray mightily and storm heaven with our cries. And the silence terrifies us. We turn inward to the God who dwells within and there is only emptiness there.

And yet we believe.

We know God is there because the mustard-seed faith we do have is stronger than the mountain of doubt that threatens it.

This is the only way I can explain how my little faith continues to win over the emptiness and doubt that seems so large, so terrifying.

God hears me pray and beg for a stronger, courageous faith, and God keeps sending mustard seeds, and they are sufficient. I suppose we always want more than we really need while God continues giving us our daily bread.
