I thought I’d include the recent press release about Exhale E-Magazine since my interview with Christina Gombar on the topic of infertility and depression was so popular. To get to the zine, click here. Some more information follows….

Is it possible to find beauty and humor in losing a baby? Monica LeMoine, founding editor of Exhale, says yes. Women and men who have struggled with infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant death – or who are otherwise childfree-not-by-choice – now have a unique space of their own for artistic expression and comic relief: Exhale, a groundbreaking online literary magazine.

Exhale, launched by Seattle-area writer and college English instructor Monica LeMoine, explores the rich array of perspectives and emotions associated with “losing a baby, or not being able to make one in the first place,” as suggested in the magazine’s subtitle. Each monthly issue showcases a compelling mélange of vivid, sometimes humorous personal essays, poetry, art, and book-and-blog reviews culled from a core group of columnists and outside contributors.

“I wanted something that delved deeper into the psychological and emotional complexities of pregnancy loss than just ‘losing a baby sucks.’ This inspired me to develop Exhale, which I quickly expanded to include women and men who struggled with infertility or were otherwise childless-not-by-choice, as I sensed a need there as well.”

Infertility and pregnancy loss are common issues that are not often discussed in public. In the U.S. alone, 6.1 million women are facing infertility issues, and nearly 630,000 pregnancies are lost annually due to miscarriage or stillbirth (American Pregnancy Association, National Center for Health Statistics).
