Awhile back I wrote about James Bishop’s Optimism Software. It’s where technology meets self-help, and I believe his program can be very beneficial. (Click here for my blog about his software.)
Well, James has been very busy over the winter because now there is an Optimism for the iPhone! Here is an overview of the App:
Optimism for iPhone is a data capture application for entering records to the Optimism Online and Desktop applications. It is quick and easy to use, but also comprehensive in helping you track your mental health. By using it to monitor patterns in your life you can identify negative influences that you need to avoid, early warning signs that your health is deteriorating, and the inputs and activities that benefit you most.
Charts and reports can be ordered using the app for delivery by email. These can highlight cause and effect relationships that you might normally miss, which helps you to develop a health plan as you better understand the things that positively and negatively affect you.
The charts and reports can be emailed directly to a health professional, to help them gain insight into how they can help you better.
A Free App
Optimism for the iPhone and iPod Touch is free for all users of the Optimism desktop software or Online app. If you already have a license for one of these then you don’t need to buy anything else.
For Data Capture
You can use it each day to record core data (e.g. mood, sleep, exercise), your Stay Well Strategies, Triggers and Symptoms, and your Notes.
Customized
The stay well strategies, triggers and symptoms listed in the app will reflect any customizations that you’ve made to these fields in the desktop or online software.
Charts and Reports
You can order both from within the app for any calendar month including the current partial month. They are sent as pdf attachments to an email address of your choosing. You have access to the same comprehensive charts and reports that you’ve always had, delivered without opening the desktop or online software.
When using the app an internet connection is needed for retrieving fields and past records, and saving new records.
Please take a look at the user guide for more information on how to use the app.
