“He transforms the very things that were before our greatest hindrances into the chiefest and most blessed means of our growth. No difficulties in your case can baffle Him….Put yourself absolutely into His hands, and let Him have His own way with you.”  Hannah Whitall Smith, quoted by Elisabeth Elliot in Secure in the Everlasting Arms.

Have your struggles with weight been a hindrance to your life?  What a wonderful truth that God can take those struggles and use them to make you strong!  Think of the ways your soul can benefit from being an “easy gainer.”

  • You can learn self control.
  • You learn patience.
  • You learn to depend on God for help in weakness.
  • You learn to be tolerant of the failings of others because you know what it is to fail at times.
  • You understand that people are more than their appearances and you are far less judgmental than you might have been.

Can you add to my list?  How have you been blessed by this particular “hindrance?”

The key is the last phrase:  “Put yourself absolutely in His hands, and let Him have His own way with you.” Don’t be mad at God because you have to struggle with weight gain.  He made you, and He could just as easily made you one of those aggravating people who can eat anything they want without gaining an ounce.  Bring the struggle to Him in surrender — and He will make it your strength.
